This piece was created in October 2014 for the “UAL-Escuela del Mármol de Andalucía” I International Sculpture Symposium. Some 12 artists from different countries were selected to make their works in situ at the University of Almería. The theme running throughout all the works is “For gender equality and against gender violence”. This work, entitled “Donna”, is by the Italian sculptor Pier Giorgio Balocchi. On a cube-shaped grey stone pedestal stands a representation of part of a woman’s body – from the waist down –dressed in a robe. The clothing hangs in vertical folds, gathered in at the waist with a piece of cloth. Above the waist is a rectangle shaped into three further organic forms. Two ochre-toned plaques complete the work, featuring the following inscriptions: “Pier Giorgio Balocchi. Italy. Donna. October, 2014”. “Love is equality. Love is against violence”.
