Universities
The University of Almería was constituted in September 1993 by the Andalusian Parliament, making it one of the youngest universities in this Autonomous Community. Based on the coast, the location of the University of Almería reflects two of the defining features of Almería Province. Just a few kilometres to the west is the Poniente region, where much of the area’s horticultural production takes place, this being one of the key drivers of Almería’s economy. Toward the east, the university is on the edge of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, the jewel in the crown of the province’s environmental riches. The University of Almería is deeply committed to this special environment, offering a wide range of degree programmes closely linked to the needs of the region’s production sectors.
