Amor Sincero
Description
Sculpture created in March 2014, during the I International Sculpture Symposium: University of Almería–Andalusian School of Marble. Some 12 artists from 8 countries were invited to create marble pieces in situ at the university, on the theme of “gender equality, in the struggle against gender violence”. This particular work, entitled Amor Sincero (Heartfelt Love), is by the Korean artist Kim Won Geun. The piece comprises a grey, cube-shaped plinth, on top of which sits a life-size representation of a man, sculpted in the round. He wears a T-shirt and shorts and is carrying in his arms a young woman, whose head rests against his cheek. The man stands tall and looks straight ahead. Two ochre-coloured plaques complete the work, with the following inscriptions: “Kim Won Geun. Korea. Heartfelt Love. October 2014”; “We need more love, more understanding. A happy society grows out of a happy family. Let us endeavour to create a happy family, where there are no differences between man and woman.”
