Encuentro
Description
This piece was created in October 2014 for the “UAL-Escuela del Mármol de Andalucía” I International Sculpture Symposium. Some 12 artists from different countries were selected to make their works in situ at the University of Almería. The theme running throughout all the works is “For gender equality and against gender violence”. This piece, entitled “Encuentro”, is by Peruvian sculptor Percy Zorilla. It comprises a rectangular grey stone pedestal, on which two semi-circular pieces stand side by side. Each piece rests on its own rectangular foot, and, while the two shapes dovetail perfectly, they are set apart. In the vision behind this work, we can perceive the two as entirely separate pieces or see them as one single work. Beneath, two ochre-toned plaques carry the following inscriptions: “Percy Zorrilla. Peru. Encuentro. October 2014”. “The meeting of straight and curved forms as complementary polarities that find union in the circle, an image of microcosms and macrocosms expressed through geometry”.
