Description

This piece was created in October 2014 for the “UAL-Escuela del Mármol de Andalucía” I International Sculpture Symposium. Some 12 artists from different countries were selected to make their works in situ at the University of Almería. The theme running throughout all the works is “For gender equality and against gender violence”. This piece, entitled “Igualdad”, is by the Belgian sculptress Patricia Sonville. It comprises a cube-shaped grey stone pedestal, on which stands an imposing white marble rectangle. Three of its facets are smooth and polished, while the fourth represents the form of a hinge. The two ochre-toned plaques that complete the work carry the following inscriptions: “Patricia Sonville. Belgium. Igualdad. October 2014”.  “Igualdad represents a hinge: two complementary forms that fit together to create one single form. They flex in harmony to create a flowing movement, evoking gentleness, mutual understanding and respect for the other”.
