Pablo de Olavide University, Seville, was founded in 1997 in accordance with Law 3/1997.

Its campus is based around what was originally the site of the Universidad Laboral Primo de Rivera, constituted in 1959.

It is now named after the illustrious politician Pablo de Olavide (1725–1803), who is known, among other achievements, for his contribution to city planning in Seville and for his reforms to the city’s university.
