Bust of Saint Fulgentius
Description
This plaster sculpture represents the head of an adult male, identified as Saint Fulgentius. His brow is furrowed and he wears a mitre.
The bust is a reproduction of the upper part of the original Gothic fired-clay sculpture of the saint by Lorenzo Mercadante de Bretaña (1464–1467), which is located in the centre-left jamb of the Door of the Baptistery of Seville Cathedral.
This cast is attributed to José Ordóñez Rodríguez, who would have produced it during the restoration work to the portals of the cathedral.
The piece was made using hard plaster moulds, cast twice in moulds of the same quality.
